Gary Daktyl was born in Southern California and spent much of his life traveling across the U.S. with his family, living in a total of 13 states by the time he was 16. Along the way, he soaked in the sounds of various music genres, from country and rock to grunge, punk, pop, and even gangster rap. These experiences shaped his love for music, which accompanied his passion for skateboarding, as he explored countless skateparks across the country.
It wasn’t until he moved to Oregon to finish high school that his musical journey truly began. There, Gary discovered hip hop while collaborating with local MCs and performers. He quickly became a familiar face at house parties, events, and even performed on a local pirate radio station. This new world of hip hop opened doors for Gary to hone his craft and build a network within the community.
For Gary, music is more than a passion—it’s therapy. It’s a way to release his thoughts and emotions in a positive, transformative way. The feeling he gets when creating music is unexplainable, as if his heart beats in sync with every note. Music brings him a sense of peace and clarity, allowing him to express what words alone cannot.
“Making music is when I feel most in tune with myself,” Gary says. “The best feeling I’ve ever experienced is performing live—being able to connect with others through sound, seeing their energy, and knowing that my music is impacting them.”
In 2023, Gary founded Star People Records to share his music with the world and continue his journey, creating a space where his message could reach audiences far beyond the local scene. With his optimistic energy and ever-loving spirit, Gary Daktyl brings joy and positivity to a world that often feels dark.
